I want to see what other people have to say about sex offenders. Please, be honest, but be respectful. Please do not use vulgar language or be rude.

I think there is a distinct difference between sex offenders who are maliciously assaultign and raping people and those that aren't wholly responsible...maybe because they've suffered it themselves. Of course, that's not an excuse, but often the punishments shouldn't be uniform.
What also annoys me is the way that the media completely villifies such people, often when they are innocent or were mentally incapable at the time. It makes everyone feel that anyone remotely connected to sex offences should be shunned, attacked, etc.
That said, any violent crime is wrong, but before you judge you should take a good look at the reasons why.

Especially those who are just accused of a sex offence. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?!

That's a subject that I don't wish to dip my toe into. The term 'Sex Offender' can be interpreted in so many different ways, and there is nothing wrong with being offensive; sexually, as long as all parties involved comply with what is going on at the time. What area are you referring to, criminal?

I tend not to agree with the 'lock 'em up and throw away the key' attitude, as this doesn't address the problem. They need to be treated, studied and observed, but obviously in a secure environment.

shoot them, all of them. then they can't do it again. No compromise or respite.

The death penalty should be brought back for child rapists, I have heard so many cases of evil people assualting children, babies. It's so disgusting and evil to even comprehend. I am not saying that the rape of an adult is any less severe, but children are vulnerable, defenceless, helpless.

I think all sex offenders need therapy. There has got to be something seriously wrong in their heads. They are clearly turned on by bizarre practices that no one else would find even remotely erotic. So they must have some kind of psychological problem. Locking them up never fixes psych problems.

The death penalty should be brought back for the majority of sex offenders. It has been proven time and time again that rehabilitation doesnt work. Even castration in america seems to make their next attack more violent.
They cleary just have the part of their brain that says this is wrong missing. You cant fix what isnt there in the first place.

VARIES WITH INTENSITY AND NATURE OF CRIME .YOU HAVE TO DEAL DIFFERENTLY IN EACH CASE .
2006-05-08 @ 18:43
Each case is completely different. I do not believe, unfortunately, in rehabilitation for paedophile/predatory rapists. That would be like saying we can cure people who are gay!! Offensive and not possible - this is not meant to be either by the way it's just an opinion.
I do not believe though, given the statistics, so many women make up there accusations of rape. I believe that the judicial system is still strongly weighted in favour of the alleged rapist.
You asked....

it's a very broad and sensitive issue. if it's mental issues(like paedophiles, then they should be locked up so they cant come near kids again. some people can deal with whatever triggered their behaviour(with therapy) and change. but society tends to be very unforgiving if someone does something wrong.
I disagree with those who say they should be killed. an eyes for an eye does not deter from crime. why are americans still going to jail while they have the death penalty? it's no detereerent and ultimately it doesnt make anyone feel better.

Some sex offenders may use the excuse of diminished responsibility. I don't buy this. Anyone would be aware of the noises of suffering made by the victim, which would show that they are not consenting in any way.
Sex offenders may delude themselves in many ways, for one by thinking that the victim really enjoys it. This is still not diminished responsibility, it is cruelty and selfishness.
It is about control and power over a victim. Using brutality to inflict horrendous acts against someone else for self gratification.
The punishment should reflect the severity of the crime. There are a few possibilities, Chemical castration, lobotomy. That's all I can think of. Capital punishment still feels wrong, and there should be a better way. What distinguishes civilised people is the quality of humanity. Saying that, if my grandaughter were raped by a paedophile, I'd probably want him killed or suffer for it.

Most sex offenders have suffered incredibly traumatic pre-teen and teen lives; wheither it be from emotional, physical or sexual abuse. These children grow up without a sense of personal or social power. Instead of attempting to punish their abuser, these people seek weaker people whom to attain power from through acts of sexual violence. Sex based offences are simply a tool to gain power; sexual gratification not being the primary focus.
In my eyes, the world has failed its children. We cannot truely condem a man or a woman for the way they develop if it is us who have turned a blind eye to the horrors of their up-bringing. These children develop differently to those with more stable upbringings, and therefor I do believe in diminished capacity. But having ssaid that, sexual offences should never go unpunished. Castration is definatly not the way to go, as removing the 'tool' of their attacs only makes them frustrated, and the attacks become more violent. Rehabilitation seldom works unless the offender is caught during their teens, and even then it is difficult and rare. How about the next time your neighbours child has bruises up to wazoo, has an 'odd' relationship with a family member, lives in a squalid house with constant yelling, or anything sad, bad or otherwise wrong, you do something instead of say its none of my business? Its your human race too.

Personally, I think that repeat offenders should be locked up and never let out of institutions. The pain they inflict upon their victims is something whole families have to suffer but that said, I don't believe that there is enough help out there for people who they say 'don't know why they do it'.
I do find this hard to believe quite frankly as you know when you want something and how to do it. I'm sure these offenders will say that they have an overwhelming compulsion to do such things without any self-restraint, but the fact of it all is simple, it is inhumane and cannot be brushed under the carpet, they need to be watched at all times and not allowed to be left in a position to do it again and again whether they can stop themselves or not
There are different types of sex offenders. Two 15 year olds who ave sex together are still sex offenders - I don't think they should go to prison. I think that rapist should get stiff jail sentences and child rapists and should get life without the possibility of parole. I totally against the idea of therapies or castration - rape is not an illness or disorder that can be cured, it is a crime.
Steph
Why only Sex Offenders. I think Any offence is unforgivable. Each person should be punished for any crime whatsoever he commits.
Byeeee.

I think every case should be treated individually but most of them should be castrated! And anyone offending against kids.....well if it was my child I would hunt them down and do the job myself!

"Sex Offenders" is too broad a label to permit a view really. Are we talking about the office groper or the violent serial rapist or the child abuser?
What does bother me is the way psychology is trying to hijack the law. The shrinks seem to be constantly saying "we must not judge these people."
But isn't that what a society employs judges for, to judge people? So a judge and jury must decide if somebody is mentally ill or simply a criminal sociopath.
| beccasawyer [Member] 2006-06-06 @ 05:25 |
I think they need locking up
But a serious pet hate is the way that the media portray people who are gay as automatically peadophiles, the two are not the same and they are not linked, and it is offensive and dangerous for society to do so. Homosexual male desire is for other males, not for young boys. That is a Peadophile, they just chose to abuse a young male. NOT THE SAME, stop linking it.
shoot All of them ....all will learnt a lesson from this
